MJ Brock MS, MA, NCC
COD Therapist
Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, MJ Brock began working in the behavioral health field in 2018 as a part-time peer support specialist in Meridian, Mississippi while earning her Master’s degree in Psychology. Prior to entering into the behavioral health field, she spent 16 years as a journalist. With a graduate degree under her belt, she soon enrolled in another master’s program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of West Alabama, where MJ truly learned what it meant to be a counselor.
“I learned so much about myself and how I fit into the world of counseling from the staff at UWA. I also came out as transgender while attending UWA. I learned enough about myself that I was confident enough that I didn’t have to hide from the world, or myself.”
MJ has been a therapist since 2020, working primarily with co-occurring disorders in community mental health, corrections, outpatient services, and residential treatment centers. Before joining the Camp in December 2024, MJ was employed with Acadia’s Chattanooga, Tennessee location – Erlanger Behavioral Health – as an outpatient counselor.
“I really enjoyed being a journalist, but I love being therapist. Working with clients contributes to my happiness a great deal. There is true purpose in helping someone find their way out of the darkness, especially when so many other avenues have failed them. My grandfather always told me if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. I haven’t done a day’s work in years.”
MJ has wanted to live in California since she was a child, and says she’s just running a little late. She enjoys exercise, reading, old movies, antique shopping, travel, and writing and performing music. She has five children, two granddaughters, and a miniature Chihuahua named Roxy.
