Marce Abare
Medical Director
Marce Abare MD, MPH is the Medical Director of The Camp Recovery Center.
Originally from Vermont, Dr. Abare completed her undergraduate studies at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in African Studies. She received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Michigan Medical School and a Master of Public Health from John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
During and after her residency, Dr. Abare completed multiple special projects, including: working as a primary physician providing care for survivors of torture at a forty-bed Healthright International clinic in rural Uganda. She also served as a staff physician at Rikers Island Correctional Facility in New York, following her residency in Primary Care & Social Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center. Here she provided substance use treatment and medication-assisted therapy for incarcerated individuals.
After moving to the Bay Area, Dr. Abare served as Medical Director of the Reentry Resource Center Mobile Medical Unit, part of Santa Clara County’s Valley Homeless Healthcare Program.
Dr. Abare now lends her tremendous talents and boundless humanitarian spirit to the staff and clients at The Camp. She is a perfect addition to this programs half-century legacy of breaking stigmas and transforming lives.
Dr. Abare lives in San Jose and in her spare time she like to travel, practice yoga, read books, and advocate for social justice and affordable housing.
